You Can Grow Tomatoes

Have you ever heard people complain that tomatoes no longer have any taste?  They will have when you grow your own.  Commercial growers are often under time pressure to get the crops out and to ship them to various locations around the country.  You are not under such pressures and can grow a variety of different tomato plants with varying size and taste, and your harvest will be very fresh and ripe, which is not like many of the tomatoes that you get in supermarkets or restaurants.

The freshness of your own tomato crop is a big advantage. Vegetables that you buy from the supermarket, and then store in the refrigerator can start to become inedible after just a few days.  Many times, homegrown vegetables are still fresh in the fridge after 2 weeks or so.  In the case of tomatoes, you can pick fresh ones off of the vine to enjoy with your sandwich. Tomatoes don’t get much better than that!

Typically, your tomato plants will produce a lot of tomatoes. This can save you money over the cost of buying at the supermarket or even at a local farmer’s market.  You can even have tomatoes to share with family and friends.  You may become a popular person when you are able to give your friends fresh tomatoes during the summer.  You can give them a few at a time so that they will have fresh tomatoes for cooking or for sandwiches.

Tomatoes are easy to grow in both the garden or a container and can provide you and your family lots of fresh and wonderful tasting tomatoes. So...plant some tomatoes and enjoy your summer feast!
